Elian’s British School Castellón offers 3 courses for children and teenagers from age 10 to age 18. The aim is to introduce them to new technologies and fundamental scientific processes of today:

  • Robotics
  • 3D Design and Printing
  • Programming and Creation of Video Games

The courses take place in school on Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:00.

The classes are delivered by qualified teachers from the Universidad Jaume I de Castellón.

ROBOTICS COURSE

  1. Assembling the robot, including motors; light, distance, and contact sensors(1 session).
  2. Project 1: Follow lines with obstacles: The robot will follow a circuit formed by a black line on a white background, avoiding obstacles and passing zones of “line losses”.
  3. Project 2: Penalty Shoot Out: Test set for the “Soccer de la RoboCup Junior” competition. The participant robot (blue) should try to locate an IR transmitter ball, the type used in the official competition RoboCup Junior to try to score a penalty. This is achieved by kicking or pushing the ball into the goal area (yellow) which is defended by a stationary goal keeper (orange). The tests for Robocup Junior are an example and may change with each competition. The content of the course will adapt to the rules at the time.
  4. Preparation for the Robocup Junior 2017 competition.

 

INTRODUCTION TO DESIGN AND 3D PRINTING COURSE

  1. Introduction to the design of simple objects using the Minecraft technique.
  2. Printing of objects using the 3D printer.
  3. Introduction to designing objects with specific dimensions, 2D design and 3D printing.
  4. Introduction to using the 3D Scanner.
  5. Group projects:
    1. Design and printing of a terrestrial mobile robot.
    2. Design and printing of a waterwheel.
    3. Design and printing of an intelligent building model.
    4. Design and printing of a drone.
    5. Other projects.
  6. Presentation of group projects.

NOTE: Systems designed and assembled may be purchased by students at the end of the course by paying for the electronic equipment used (motors, , microcontrollers, etc.). The plastic material is free.

 

INTRODUCTION TO DESIGNING WEB BASED VIDEO GAMES AND ANDROID APPLICATIONS COURSE

  1. Introduction to designing simple web games with the Scratch programme.
    1. Designing Sprites and animated gifs.
    2. Multimedia content (e.g. sound).
    3. Movement. First programme.
    4. The Events (e.g. programming rebounds).
    5. Ratings (using variables).
    6. Creating screens.
    7. Group projects:
    • The labyrinth
    • Martians
    • Ball games
    • Platform and jumping games
    • Training games: Improving memory, maths etc.
  2. Introduction to designing games and applications for Android tablets and mobile phones.
    1. My first Android application. Programming and installation.
    2. Creation of icons.
    3. Multimedia content (e.g. sound).
    4. Use of movement sensors.
    5. My first game.
    6. Group projects:
    • The moving ball
    • Golf
    • Application that helps people with speech difficulties
    • The control my robot: Controlling a robot from a tablet
  3. Presentation of group projects.
